Rev. Alyssa Burleson

Associate Pastor

What is your role at LUMC? How long have you been in your current role?

I serve as the Associate Minister of Connection here at Lakewood UMC. In this role, I will be looking to help our church connect to our weekly ministries, like Mothers Day Out and After Care Express, as well as to our community in general. I have been in this role since July of 2022.

What is your place of birth/where are you from? Where all have you lived?

I was born and raised here in North Little Rock. I spent a few years in Jonesboro, and also in Boston, Massachusetts, attending school.

Where did you attend school (high school/college/grad school)?

I attended North Little Rock High School (Go Wildcats!), Arkansas State University (Go Red Wolves!), and Boston University School of Theology (Go Terriers!)

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

When not at work, I love spending time with my family and friends and enjoying good food!

Do you have a favorite Bible verse, passage, or story? If so, what is it?

My favorite Bible verses are Numbers 6:24-26, also known as the Priestly Blessing. These verses bring me such comfort and are meaningful in times of joy, sorrow, and everything in between.

(24) The LORD bless you and keep you; (25) the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; (26) the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

What is a fun fact about you that most people may not know?

A fun fact about me is that I studied Theater before going to seminary!

Do you follow sports? If so, what are your favorite sports/teams?

I wouldn’t say I “follow” sports, but I love to cheer my school teams, as well as the Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys and Boston Celtics!

What is your favorite place you have visited? If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go? What would you do there? Who would you go with?

My favorite place I have visited is Acadia National Park on the coast of Maine. It is truly such a beautiful place! I spent the entire trip in awe of God’s incredible creation!

If I could visit anywhere in the world, I would love to visit Europe. I have never been but would love to spend a few weeks exploring and experiencing several countries there.

If you were given the opportunity to share a meal with any one person - past or present, who would you dine with?

If I could share a meal with anyone, I would choose Anna Howard Shaw. Born in 1847, she was the second woman to graduate from Boston University School of Theology, and after being denied ordination in the Methodist Episcopal Church, went on to be ordained in the Methodist Protestant Church, making her one of the first women to be ordained in any branch of Methodism. I would love to hear about her life, resilience, and incredible social justice work and efforts to further the rights of women both in the church and the world.

If you had to choose your last meal, what would it be?

Ice cream!
