FEEDING THE HUNGRY

Feeding the hungry is just one of the things that Lakewood does, whether it's stocking the shelves at Gardner Food Pantry or the blessing box on our campus, filling backpacks with weekend food for school children, raising money for the Arkansas Rice Depot, or cooking meals in our commercial kitchen and delivering them to our unhoused brothers and sisters at Canvas Community Church in downtown Little Rock.  
Donate Funds
  • For Gardner Memorial Food Pantry by mailing a check to them at 1723 Schaer Street, North Little Rock, Arkansas USA 72114.
  • For LUMC’s meals for Canvas Community or the Lakewood Elementary Backpack Feeding program by writing a check to the church or giving online at expandingthelight.org/give.
Donate Food
  • The Lakewood UMC Blessing Box is located in the lower parking lot near the entrance to the Discipleship building. You can drop off food in the box at any time and neighbors in need collect as they need. 
  • The Gardner Memorial Food Pantry currently needs packaged cookies and canned cranberry sauce. You can drop off during office hours 8am-3:30pm Monday through Thursday or between 9-12 on Sunday at 1723 Schaer Street, North Little Rock, Arkansas USA 72114, or drop off at Lakewood UMC on Sunday mornings at the mission table located outside Wesley Hall.  
Donate Time
  • Help pack food backpacks for Lakewood Elementary Backpack Feeding program. November 16th we will be setting up and packing food bags. Stay after church to help with the set up process or come to the church later that afternoon and help the youth pack food bags. Contact Pastor Sara [email protected] for more information.
  • Help cook and/or serve a meal for Canvas Community on November 19th. Contact Michael O’Connor at [email protected] to sign up.
  • Volunteer for the Gardner Memorial Food Pantry during distribution days. Contact Rex Winkly at [email protected] or 501-580-0816 to sign up. 

Helping Children

We are a proud Partner in Education of Lakewood Elementary School, tutoring and supporting whatever we can, including providing food bags for the weekends. 

We also support Jasmine’s Closet, which provides clothing and toiletry items to students at Lakewood Middle School who are in need. 

OZARK MISSION PROJECT

We are a founding member of the Ozark Mission Project, a summer camp where teenagers get out in the Arkansas heat to help people who are physically or financially unable to maintain their homes, by painting houses, building wheelchair ramps, or clearing brush.  Five thousand homes later, OMP has a dozen camps where over six hundred campers live in churches, eat donated food, and borrow showers each evening. Disaster RElief

Arkansas United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) - The Arkansas Conference Disaster Coordinators train Early Response Teams in times of need in areas flooded, hit by storms, and other disasters. They also equip teams of volunteers from churches to work together on storm clean-up, home repairs, etc., for those in need.
