Lakewood UMC met our goal for the 2026 Capital Campaign and projects are in progress!
Thanks to you, our Trustees have been able to do really important work to offer the best possible hospitality for our church! We are so grateful for your generosity and so excited for what God has in store for us as we expand the light of Christ into the world! This is a live page dedicated to tracking our progress as we continue to complete projects funded by the 2026 Capital Campaign in order to remain a welcoming space for our congregation and community. |

Goals & Progress
stage 1: Complete
The highest priority for the 2026 Capital Campaign was the Playground Entrance Project. For many years, the church's playground entrance flooded during flash-flood-inducing rains, bringing water into the entry and down the hallway, soaking the carpet and walls. In May 2026, this drainage project was completed and this critical water is now fixed!
Crews removed the existing drainage pipe and corrected the fall in the pipe trench. We added two new drain grates and two new drainage pipes with a slope to help evacuate waters swiftly and shored up the gaps in the trench drain grate to reduce the amount of leaves and debris from entering the drain. Now, this entrance is protected from flooding and the project even came in under budget.
LUMC's Mother's Day Out reopened for the 2026-2027 school year amidst the pouring rain on August 24. Thanks to your generosity, families did not have to worry about wading through flooding to bring their children into the building entrance next to the playground.

Stage 2: Planned for January 2027
As primary community spaces, Gibson Hall and the kitchen are the next areas that will be receiving care beyond routine maintenance. Renovation is currently planned to begin in January 2027. Check in again soon for more details about all this project entails to renew this beloved space.
Additional Hospitality Projects
With the Playground Entrance Project expenses being less than budgeted for and to honor the gifts that you so generously gave, LUMC's Trustees approved the use of surplus campaign funds to be repurposed to keep our building hospitable for our congregation and community through additional hospitality projects. In the midst of an extra scorching summer, your gifts allowed us to install new air conditioning units in the Children's Area and Wesley Hall to keep everyone cool and comfortable.
