Prayer Shawl Ministry

Our Prayer Shawl Ministry, Sisters 'n Stitches, gives prayer-filled, individually blessed shawls for comfort in times of illness and recovery, after a loss, to a caregiver or in ministry to others as well as in appreciation, recognition, and celebration. Small prayer wraps have been provided to parents in neo-natal intensive care units who may hold their baby, but never take the child home.

Prayer shawls are as appropriate as prayer for anyone at any age.  Each shawl is blessed for the individual recipient. We would welcome the opportunity to give you our prayers. Please call the Church Office, 753-6186, to leave a message for Marilyn or email us.

Sisters 'n Stitches welcomes those who want to participate and contribute to this meaningful ministry. Since 2005 they have blessed over 500 shawls and blankets and given them to those in our church, community and other states. If there is a need, they want to be there. You don't have to be a member of Lakewood or meet regularly. It is a ministry of the heart and hands and open to all.

Have you ever seen or heard of a ministry that you think needs to be done? Does God ever present things to you, again and again, until you accept the challenge? Such was the beginning of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Lakewood United Methodist. Although the Prayer Shawl Ministry began in the northeast in 1998, the concept gained momentum when the book Knitting Into the Mystery was available on the United Methodist Women's reading list after 2003.  For more information,  visit the Prayer Shawl Ministry Home Page.

The Sisters meet the first Wednesday of each month, 6:30, in W2.  Don't worry if you need instruction -- we have all skill levels plus willing instructors to get you started. While we are known as Sisters 'n Stitches, we would be agreeable to expand our name if any men care to join. For information please call the Church Office, 753-6186, to leave a message for Marilyn or  email us.
