United Methodist Women
All women of the church are invited to participate in United Methodist Women (UMW).
The purpose of UMW is to be "a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."
Carol Williams is serving as President. The unit is divided into five circles, three day time groups and two evening groups.
Over one hundred UMW members and guests attended the 2008 Awards/Salad Luncheon here at Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock. Awards were given for special Mission Recognition, Minute Women, and Unit Friendship. Tables were centered with flowers and UMW books from the reading program. Each place featured a booklet which included the program, lists of books available to check out, and a description of the four Reading Program Plans and a place to record books read from the UMW list. Favors were handed-crocheted bookmarks in green and pink. An inspirational presentation was given by author Deena Burnett Bailey, whose husband was on a 9/11 plane. The event called special attention to the UMW READING PROGRAM and members responded.
Local mission projects supported by the UMW are Our House, Red Cross Blood Bank, Union Rescue Mission, Youth Home, Aldersgate, UAMS Med Center nursery, Stork Ministry, MIWATCH, Heaven's Loft and other local projects.
Meetings are always listed in the church calendar. Meetings are not held in the summer months.
